Story of the foundation of the Faculty of Agro-Industry from the past until the present

The faculty of Agro-Industry, Prince of Songkla University is one of the most important educational institutions for both undergraduate and graduate studies in southern Thailand as we have long been closely collaborated with many other organizations in the development and improvement of Thailand’s agro-industry, especially those in the south of Thailand. Back in 1976 when the faculty was only one of the departments within the faculty of Natural Resources, we have started to offer the Bachelor of Science degree in Agro-Industry and in the year 1987, we also have started to offer the Master of Science degree in Food Technology as well as the Master of Science Degree in Biotechnology.
Then, on February 7^th, 1995, the department of Agro-Industry within the faculty of Natural Resources was upped the level from the department status to the faculty status in order to help supporting Thailand’s economic expansion and to help improving the revenues of Thailand’s agricultural society. The faculty of Agro-Industry is organized into 5 sub-units, which are the department of Food Technology, the department of Industrial Biotechnology, the department of Material Technology, the department of Agro-Industry Technology Management, and the Secretariat Office. Later, the board of the Prince of Songkla University granted agreement to the faculty of Agro-Industry to set up two more sub-units to help collaborating technical and consulting services for industry and community. Those two additional sub-units are the Agro-Industry Development Center for Export or ADCET and the Measuring Instrument Calibration Center.
At the present, the faculty of Agro-Industry is the 14^th faculty of the Prince of Songkla University to conduct very important tasks of educating high quality graduates to serve the needs of the society and to be important elements in the nation’s improvement process. We now offer Bachelor of Science degrees in Agro-Industry, Material Technology, and Agro-Industry Technology Management; Master of Science degrees in Food Technology, Biotechnology, Fisheries Product Technology, and Agro-Industry Technology Management; and Doctor of Philosophy in Food Technology and Biotechnology.
